Among all the green-tinged, environmentally aware products on the Mercedes-Benz stand at the 2007Frankfurt auto show — we’re mentally excluding the SLR Roadster, of course — will be the first Benz fruits of its hybrid venture with BMW and GM.

The ML450 Hybrid, Mercedes says, will go on sale in 2009, and it will be the most fuel-efficient two-more gas-electric hybrid on the market anywhere. That’s a lot of caveats, but the ML Hybrid could get as much as 31 mpg in combined driving, if Benz estimates translate into real-world economy.

The hybrid drivetrain in the ML will produce a total of 340 horsepower. More details on the powertrain will be forthcoming as TheCarConnection.com covers the Frankfurt motor show this week.
