Peugeot Shows Off New 308

French firm Peugeot has unveiled its latest entry into the highly competitive European small family hatchback sector – and there are no prizes for guessing the name of the successor to the 306 and 307.

The 308 will make its official debut at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show and go on sale across the continent soon after. Three and five-door versions – the models that make up the bulk of sales – will be available from launch, but an estate and coupe-cabriolet will follow in due course.

The car will be assembled at Peugeot plants in Sochaux and Mulhouse, France.

The outgoing 307 – which arrived in showrooms in 2001 – has been a massively successful product for Peugeot, selling in excess of three million units worldwide.
