2006 Acura Advance Sedan Concept

Acura says the new Advanced Sedan Concept it showed at the 2006Los Angeles auto show could predict how its future luxury flagship models look and perform.

Penned by its California design team, the Advanced Sedan Concept is Acura's "purest expression of advanced design, performance, and luxury."

The shape is heavily influenced by what the Honda luxury brand vaguely refers to as a "large, powerful engine" lurking under the Concept's hood. Designers aimed for a shape with a lot of presence - and a little mystery. And though it flourishes with modern design cues, the overall silhouette stays with that of a classic flagship sedan, Acura says.

Anchoring it to the ground are massive 22-inch wheels and tires in the front, and 23-inchers in back. Acura promises powerful disc brakes behind the wheels. The Concept sits 79.5 inches wide, broader than many SUVs.

The Concept's cockpit is bathed in natural light from a tinted glass roof.

The most controversial view of the Concept is undoubtedly from the front, where a tall, faceted face wears a large five-sided Acura grille. The aluminum grille wears a large, cut-crystal Acura badge. The Concept's headlamps double as air intakes, Acura says.

“The front of the sedan communicates power and luxury,” explains designer David Marek. “The pronounced hood and large grille communicate performance, while the jewel-like Acura emblem captures the essence of pure luxury.”
