2007 Dodge Nitro Gets R/T Model, Load ‘N Go
Dodge’s new mid-size SUV paraded across the stage in Chicago in R/T form. And though no pricing has been announced, the Chrysler Group pitched the new Jeep Liberty-based SUV as a fully featured alternative to bigger traditional utes. Shown in R/T trim, the Nitro comes in base, SLT, and R/T versions. The standard engine is a 3.7-liter V-6 with 210 hp; Nitro R/Ts are powered by a 4.0-liter V-6 with 255 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque and ride on 20-inch rims and a sport suspension. The standard gearbox on base vehicles is a six-speed manual, while a four-speed automatic is an option; the SLT gets the four-speed standard, while the R/T gets a standard five-speed automatic. Part-time or full-time four-wheel drive systems are offered. Stability control and side curtain airbags come with each Nitro, as does a Load ‘N Go floor that slides back and forth 18 inches in the cargo area for easier loading. Options include a navigation system, CD changer, DVD entertainment system and Sirius are options.
