Anti-lock Antennas

Q--You suggested that “you could have an external mast antenna installed” on the reader’s car with poor radio reception after tinting the rear window. The reason I was given for the antenna in the rear window (which I prefer) is to keep the antenna as far as possible away from the A B S and traction control systems.

A--There is little or no RFI (radio frequency interference) from the A BS system. The electrical pulses created by the toothed trigger wheel passing the stationary magnet are carried by wires to the A BS controller. They are not radio signals. Lots of A BS-equipped cars have mast antennas.

    antenna in the glass

The biggest reasons for the demise of mast antennas are styling and noise. A car without a mast has a cleaner shape. The reason it's in the rear window is that it has been found that the rear window defogger grid works well as an antenna when it's properly configured.
