Britain’s AutoExpress magazine reports that the Mazda Hakaze concept from the Geneva Motor Show will turn into a production CX-5 crossover vehicle, and that it will be aimed at the likes of the new Land Rover LR2.

Features making the cut from the concept include a four-seat cabin and a split tailgate. Removeable roof panels are also in the plan. However, the long side doors of the concept will be swapped for four doors in the RX-8 mold – two hinged at the front, two smaller doors hinged at the rear. All-wheel drive will be available. Inside, the CX-5 will get a USB port for MP3 players and Bluetooth.

The paper reports formal approval for production has not come, but that it’s hoped for a 2010 introduction.
