Shelby GT Inspires New Fender Strat

Ford is looking for some excitement in its North American lineup – and the new Fender Stratocaster inspired by the Shelby GT might be just its ticket.

The special Limited Edition Ford Shelby GT Standard Stratocaster® guitar is making its debut this week at theCleveland auto show. It’s also part of Ford’s contribution to Guitarmania, a public art charity tied to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which dwells in the land of Cleves.

The first Ford Strat will be auctioned off for the charity and for the local chapter of the United Way . The backstory? Ford’s Duratec V-6 is built nearby and powers many of the products in the company’s turnaround effort, including the new Edge crossover.

Remaining Ford Strats will be sold through the Ford Collection Web site starting March 1, 2007. Two hundred copies are being made, each with a special-edition number on the neck plate. Ford will also offer a Fender Sonoran acoustic for sale on its Web site.
