I have a 1995 Audi A6 quattro wagon. The stereo has stopped working. All the wiring is fine and the?

speakers still work great. I am told that I can not buy a regular stereo from the store an install it with a wiring kit an antenna adapter. They say I have to rewire the whole system and get new speakers and everything. Is this true or is someone just trying to make money... Read More

  • make sure you check the fuses for the radio. not uncommon for those radios to fail. check around at junk yards and see if you can pick one up cheap. re-man radios are probably available from the dealer if you really loved the sound.   • this is usually the on off switch in the center of the radio, get a used one from a wreckers or breakers it's the cheapest and best way repairing them is not economical. another fault you can check is that you haven't disconnected the power antenna which connects to the rear window demister element which is the actual...   • If you have the high powered radio option then each speaker has a built in amp and only works with the factory radio.
  • You might want to pull the radio out, and check the fuse, it is on the back panel. Reference:Own several Audis and VWs.
  • I ve seen some done but it looks like crap and not worth the trouble. See a junk yard or www.shokan.com for a used one
