i have a 2004 nissan maxima and i have a problem when i start my car it makes a rattling sound?

at different rpms the sound gets louder or when accelrating the sound becomes louder i dont know what it is but it sounds like its coming from like the engine has about 110,000 miles on it engine light is not on i use synthetic oil i use premium

  • Are you sure the car isn't pinging? You may of got some bad gas (lower octane). If you're sure it not the gas or pinging I would check the heat shield and then check the catalytic converter. When the converter goes bad it sounds like sand rattling around in a tin can. ps: Also, check the engine mounts. Read More
  • How is your oil level? If its low, fill it up. Listen while your engine is running to find out where the noise is coming from. Pop the hood and check around. Could be a lot of things but you need to investigate the noise before it becomes a bigger problem.
  • Hey i also have a 2004 Nissan Maxima my car had that same problem the dealer told me it was the timing chain and belt, u should get it fix if not ur engine can blow up. They had my car for a month, they have to take the engine out to fix problem.
  • 1 how long has check engine lite been on? 2 tune it with over 100K you've done that right? right? 3 heat shields...exhaust system heat shields come loose and rattle...one on cat converter too
  • it's probably the catalyst converter or the shield covering it.
