Can I be able to get away with using 89 octane or does it have to be 91 like what it says on the book as well as the reminder sticker on the gas cap.

• That depends on how much you like the car. If you don't like it run whatever you want. If you do then I suggest premium. We have had 3 RX8's in the shop last month. Wait let me correct that. 3 RX8's that died and wouldn't restart in the shop last month. All of them had below normal compression reading on one rotor... Read More
• You can try 89 if you want. there are some people that have problems with 89 (knocking, which is very damaging to a Rotary engine) but most don't. • sorry but if you go cheap on the gas you will need to replace your apex seals sooner and it will end up costing you more. it needs 91 octane like it says due to the fact that i has very low compression and due to that it need a high octane to keep from knocking. Reference:had and rx8 sold it due to gas
