Can the ball joints on a Mercury Mountaineer be greased?
I have a 99 Mountaineer that is squeaking. I took it to the shop and was told that the upper and lower ball joints need to be replaced. I just need a temporary fix for right now. Can they be greased so that the squeaking will stop?

Not with a grease gun, but you try spraying some form of oil into the ball joints, may have to raise the boot up and spray, won't say for sure this will help Reference:Ford Tech 17 Yrs ASE Master Tech Read More

Ball joints don't squeak. If badly worn, they may make a clunking sound over bumps. I'll bet it's your rubber suspension parts that are the issue. A spray rubber lubricant is available at most auto parts stores for this problem.

Look for the Grease fitting nubs.. you can tell what they are when you see them.. little nubs with a pin hole in the tip....If there are none then you will have to do it the hard way and get a seringe like the one you give an animal medicine with and inject the grease into the rubber boot/covering...

If they're original or cheap replacements they will not have grease fittings. Reference:Old mechanic/parts guy

some have little holes with plugs threaded into the holes/if you have them take them out and put fittings in and grease it

Ford sells about times as many Explorers as Mercury does Mountaineers. Editors from TheCarConnection.com offer a myriad of answers why, but mostly it's because Mercury drivers are using Mountaineers as car and/or minivan substitutes, not as truck alternatives.
