How much should I pay for ball joints and shocks on a dodge dakota with installation.?

2WD: Both sides Upper and Lower Moog Ball Joints 4 Quality Shocks (Monroe) I was quoted on those brands. The originals have to be removed (220,000 miles) Balls $480 Shocks $977 2004 Dakota...they said the ball joints were not looking good and were the originals...riveted... Read More

  • I just checked out one of Canada's parts sources and so far your front shocks are about 34 a piece , the rears are about 77 a piece so that's about 220 bucks plus taxes and if you're including labour fees in your prices you've given us 3 hrs or so of labour is a fair price or 2 hrs would be the lowest amount of time... • That's ridiculously high for the shocks... On 2WD they're practically bolted on. If it's the same as on my 2WD Ram Van (which, by the pictures, they seem to be), your shocks are inside the spring. Two bolts on the bottom, one bolt on the top... Read More
  • That's a bit extreme. Especially for shocks. And if those prices include the labor, make sure the alignment is included. You must have the older Dakota because the 2nd gen. the ball joints aren't serviceable.
  • just an opinion ,but that's way to high on all that, try pricing the parts out and see what you come out with, they are pricing that one way too high, all of that can be done for around 850 total, good luck. Reference:been a certified mechanic for 38 yrs now.
  • the ball joints sounds high.just had mine done for $300.00 and mine is 4x4.the shocks i would never pay that much for.

Other Choices:

The mid-size pickup market isn't hotly contested, and excluding the HUMMER H3T, the players are all kind of stale. The V-8 in the 2008 Dodge Dakota gives it a distinct advantage in power over the five-cylinder Chevy and GMC mid-size twins, as well as the six-cylinder Tacoma, Frontier, and Ridgeline. However, the imports offer quality and dynamic performance advantages over the Dodge. New for 2009, only the HUMMER H3T Alpha model offers a V-8, and at nearly $40,000, it's much pricier than the Dodge.
