Is BMW 3 series a good first car?

I'm looking around on the 3 series and I would like to know what are your opinions of having a BMW as a first car? I already have drove a friend's 2000 BMW 328i and liked it.

  • Yes they are excellent cars! I am an owner of a 2005 BMW 325i sedan. They give you luxury and comfort compared to any other car. Its good for a first car as long as you have a Job or parents who are able to maintain the Hefty maintenance cost and other things. The car its self is excellent but i would recommend going... • they are good cars BUT the maintenance is horrendous! Call a few places and price out simple things like oil changes and brakes. You may change your mind after that! FYI, even if you do the maintenance yourself there are still lights that have to be reset with special tools only BMW techs have. Reference:3 years, BMW... Read More
  • LOL, mazda's are the worst Japanese cars in the market, Mitsubishis are ok but they are just average cars. the BMW is the ultimate in Luxury and the 3 series is a good car if you have a decent salary and willing to spend more on a much better looking and much more respected car than the Mazda or the Mits.
  • your first car is dependent on ure salary, if ure making lots, a luxury car would be nice, if ure only taking in like 30-40k a year that would be a pricy car to get. do you understand what im saying? get a car that meets your needs and ure budget, dont buy a car just cause u like it. i like a Enzo but of course id be... • I drove a 325is for my first car, and it was great to learn on. It makes everything else much easier to drive when you start on a performance car. But it has to be a manual.

Other Choices:

The 2008 BMW 3-Series remains the benchmark in the hotly contested field of mid-size sport sedans, though the G35's handling is arguably superior with its very communicative steering response. Driving dynamics and the aesthetic experience behind the wheel are still 3-Series strengths; it's the best in its field. The latest C-Class is sportier and a good compromise between performance and comfort, but its interior materials feel skimpy compared to the 2008 BMW 3-Series. Also peeking inside, the new stunning interior of the new Cadillac CTS ranks at the top, and the A4's interior looks more interesting. In addition, the Audi A4--an IIHS Top Safety Pick--beats the 3-Series in safety. And finally, if you're willing to put down a lot more dough, there are more exclusive, high-performance alternatives for most of these sedans--the S4/RS4, CTS-V, IS-F, and C63 AMG--to ponder.
