BMW 3 series saloon?

Are these a good car to drive? How do they compare to their rival the Mercedes c-class saloon (C220?)? Are they economical and generally quite reliable?

  • They are really two different philosophies. Mercedes is more concerned with luxury, comfort and style while BMWs are typically performance-minded pieces of engineering. The ride comfort will be better in the Merc but it will also feel a bit boaty in corners. BMWs are much lighter making them much more nimble in... Read More
  • Fabulous car! I have one! Mine does about 30 to the gallon. Not too sure how they compare with the Merc, my husband would prefer the latter as they have more head room (he's 6'4"!) I have had mine for 14 months and its never let me down or cost me a single penny. I, unfortunately, hit another car just before Christmas... Read More
  • The 3 series are great! I know people who have them and love them. The C-class is ok, a little more cushy, but it doesnt handle near as well. I like the Audi a4. In a straight line its not as fast as a BMW, but it's handling is great, and Audi has the best All Wheel Drive system (quattro). Hope this helped!

Other Choices:

The 2008 BMW 3-Series remains the benchmark in the hotly contested field of mid-size sport sedans, though the G35's handling is arguably superior with its very communicative steering response. Driving dynamics and the aesthetic experience behind the wheel are still 3-Series strengths; it's the best in its field. The latest C-Class is sportier and a good compromise between performance and comfort, but its interior materials feel skimpy compared to the 2008 BMW 3-Series. Also peeking inside, the new stunning interior of the new Cadillac CTS ranks at the top, and the A4's interior looks more interesting. In addition, the Audi A4--an IIHS Top Safety Pick--beats the 3-Series in safety. And finally, if you're willing to put down a lot more dough, there are more exclusive, high-performance alternatives for most of these sedans--the S4/RS4, CTS-V, IS-F, and C63 AMG--to ponder.
