when does a 2007 Hyundai Elantra need a timing belt replaced? I've heard 100K from dealer and 60K from my mech?

  • My Gates catalog only goes up to 2004, but all of the Elantra's are listed at 60K. It's an interference engine, so replacing the TB is good insurance against having to have the valves and pistons replaced if the original breaks.
  • best thing to do is check to see if the belt is starting to crack or if makes noise. Signs of dryness could lead to failer. At 100k you would need to replace the water pump and if your close (to 100k) then wait, and replace both.
  • Read the manual, but I think it's 60K.
