What could have caused this in my Chrysler Sebring Sedan (2004)?

  • The caliper bolt was not tightened to the correct torque spec and the threads should have had a drop or 2 of blue lock tight ( NOT RED). The factory even put a drop on those bolts during assy.   • My guess is the mechanic who did the job put the bolt in but didn't tighten it. The pop you heard was the brake caliper rotating out into the rim when the bolt fell out. Did you check the other bolts in the other side. Reference:Chrysler tech. Ret.
  • I would say whoever did the brake work for you did not get the caliper bolts tight. If a repair shop did this work, I would carry the car back and show them what happened to the wheel and have them recheck the other side for you as well.
