How does the VW New Beetle handle in the snow?

I am thinking about buying a vw new beetle. I live in WI and we have bad winters sometimes. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how they handle in the snow? Thanks

  • I had a 2006 hard top beetle for two years through two winters here in the upper plans part of the country. We never got stuck once and that included 3 snowfalls of 1ft+.   • I had a old 02 Golf, basically same car as the New Beetle with a different body. Get a set of dedicated winter tire/wheel setup. 15" steel wheels with 195/65r15 tires is the best combination to go with. Michelin X-ICe2 is supposed to be an excellent "studless" snow tire.   • Although we live in sunny NC, we occasionally get some snow/ice. Our 1999 New Beetle travelled the road as well as most cars on the road. It is , after all, a Front Wheel Drive car like 90% of the economy cars driven in USA. Get a good set of winter tires , drive intelligently, and you will be OK.
  • They're not that good, believe me. The aircooleds are better than a 4x4 pickup. I know, I have four aircooled Beetles, as well as a 2005 Ford Ranger, and live in a hilly, snowy area.
