Brand new 2009 camry hybrid with 4K miles keeps showing 'check engine light'. What to do? So fed up!!!?

Hi All, I have a brand new camry hybrid 09' with approx. 4K miles on it. I am satisfied with the overall performance EXCEPT the 'check engine light' sensor that comes ON every now and then. I already took the car to the toyota dealership THRICE ( :( ) within a month and... Read More

  • I hope you haven't been topping off the fuel tank. You are NOT supposed to do that when you fill up. By topping off the fuel tank, the EVAP fuel vapor recovery system will get saturated and cause some serious damage that will trigger the Check Engine light. That kind of damage is considered non-warranty abuse by the... Read More
  • Hey Gill, I have the same problem with my car. I also have an 09 Camry Hybrid with a little over 3000 miles on it. The 1st time it happened was 2 weeks after I purchased it. The dealer replaced the fuel containment valve. The 2nd time I was out of town and the dealer there did not have a loaner car.I kept driving it... Read More
  • I just bought a used 2009 Camry Hybrid with 5k miles on it. I drove it for about 50 miles and the 'check engine light' came on. My gas cap is definitely shut tight. Lucky I did buy the extra service coverage but now I still have to waste time with taking it to the dealer. So much for Toyota quality !!!
  • Go to the next step above the dealer. Ask the dealer who the company representative is and his phone number.
  • Take it back to a Toyota dealer, preferable where you bought it. It's under warranty.

i have a 2009 toyota camry hybrid that I have only 3600 miles and have had it back three times in a month and get the same baloney about the gas cap. The last time this past week they said it was so loose it almost fell off and I just as much called them a liar. My tank was half empty so I hadn't gotten gas in over a week . they replaced a valve on tuesday and the light came on Friday. They put a new gas cap on and said they did it as a courtesy. I told them I was contacting Toyta Headquarters and b-4 I got home there was three msgs for me to call the customer relations manager at thedealership.I need answers

Other Choices:

The Altima Hybrid, which also uses a full-hybrid system, has mileage and overall performance that's very similar to those of the Camry Hybrid, but the Camry's interior is a little roomier. The luxurious, diesel-powered Mercedes E320 BlueTEC seems like an unlikely competitor, but it also attracts buyers who want to decrease their petroleum use, and it gets 32 mpg on the highway. To its credit, the E320 BlueTEC rides, handles, and accelerates just about as well as the gasoline E350, but it's more than twice the price of the Camry Hybrid. Or if you'd like a full-hybrid powertrain in a compact SUV, there's the Ford Escape Hybrid, which is rated at 34 mpg city, 30 mpg highway. Finally, if you don't need all the space of the Camry and don't mind a hatchback, you might as well go for the much more fuel-efficient Prius, which gets 48 mpg city, 45 mpg highway.
