Where are transmission solenoids located in a Dodge 48RE tranny, and how do I check them?

Truck is a 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 Laramie 4x4. 2nd gear and Overdrive are non-existent.

  • did you scan it first to actually see what was causing the problem with it,that can also be a bad tcm unit causing this too happen to it,the shift solenoids should be located up above the valve body on that one,but id scan the computer first and get the codes before i dropped the pan off,good luck.   • you have to drop the pan to get to them. not much you can do to actually test them other them for continuity and resisitance. though they might check out ok but you still may have problems with them. i replace them in my '99 and i paid around $115 total.
  • Sorry, I don't know the answer, but hopefully this will help you: try looking at wikihow.com. That is where my boyfriend learned how to replace the starter in our Neon.
