If you bought a brand new car, will people scratch it on purpose?

Well, my mom just bought a 2009 Toyota Matrix and she is very cautious about her car. I mean, she rarely drives it because she's always worried if someone scratches it. Well, it does have a nice MP3 system, looks very nice and the worst part of this is it's black. Oh and we... Read More

  • Who knows what sick and twisted thing people will do these days. I would say, yeah, there is some nut out there that would enjoy damaging someone Else's car. Can't explain why, must be some defective gene or something.
  • This is not something to lose sleep over. It's GOING to happen sooner or later, either by accident or on purpose, so why not go scratch it YOURSELF and then RELAX? If it's THAT big a deal, buy a used Yugo and forget about it.
  • The car is not a head turner, so will most likely not be scratched. people scratch corvettes, benz, bmws, not toyotas.

I had a brand new matrix when I was in HS, it was in a car crash within 6 days and keyed within 4 days of having it back.. The car isn't a head turner..but it was clean, shiny and had those damn dealer plate covers.. When I finally sold it for a Chrysler Crossfire that too was keyed on Christmas (about 5 months after I bought it) If you live is so cal your car will get keyed, people are lame, disrespectful and just don't care about anyone but themselves.

Other Choices:

Though mechanically similar to the Pontiac Vibe, the 2009 Toyota Matrix has different styling inside and out, as well as some minor differences in equipment. Its exterior styling in particular is smoother and cleaner, without overtly flared wheel wells like the Vibe. In nearly all other attributes, the two vehicles are virtually identical. The Spectra5 and Mazda3 are arguably more fun to drive than the Matrix, with peppy engine response and a tighter suspension, and similar in overall space—though the Mazda3 has a very tight backseat. The Spectra also stands out for its long warranty, especially its ten-year/100,000-mile powertrain coverage. The Subaru Impreza hatchback is also a worthy alternative to the Matrix; though it's somewhat more expensive, the Impreza has standard all-wheel drive, a torquey flat-four engine, and an enviable safety and reliability record.
