Both the Eclipse coupe and Spyder convertible carry over into '07 with base GS and V-6 GT versions being essentially identical to the '06 versions. The GS continues to be powered by a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine rated at 162 horsepower while the sporty GT packs a 263-horsepower 3.8-liter V-6. Both engines feature Mitsubishi's MIVEC variable valve timing and electronic lift control. The in-line four can be mated to either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission with Sportronic manual-shift mode, while the GT offers the choice of a six-speed manual or five-speed Sportronic automatic. The front-drive Eclipse has a MacPherson strut suspension up front and a multi-link suspension with coil springs at the rear, stabilizer bars at both ends and anti-lock disc brakes all around. Standard equipment includes side impact and side-curtain airbags, with items like a power sunroof (coupes), heated leather seats and side-view windows, automatic climate control available. A premium 650-watt Rockford Fosgate audio system (with a huge eight-inch rear subwoofer) is standard on the convertible Spyder.  Though the Eclipse doesn’t have the sharpest reflexes or handling, it offers an appealing mix of style and (with the V-6) excellent power and straight-line performance.
