Spectra
An all-new Spectra compact debuted in spring 2004 in both sedan and sporty new Spectra5 hatchback versions. While it comes in at a rock-bottom price it nonetheless includes no less than six standard airbags, including dual front, front-side, and head-curtain varieties. The Spectra's 2.0-liter four-cylinder uses variable valve timing to generate 138 horsepower, and can be mated to either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox. Four-wheel disc brakes come standard (with ABS optional), and front and rear stabilizer bars are on hand to improve the car's ride and handling characteristics. The hatchback model offers more-aggressive styling and handling, sport seats, and metal brake, accelerator, and clutch pedals. Both the Spectra5 and a new SX sedan trim level add items like air conditioning, a CD stereo, keyless entry, power accessories, and heated mirrors.

A bargain, without the
sacrifices.
