Hyundai says the new Elantra range coming for 2009 will include a "Touring" edition with a five-door body.
Hyundai VP of product development John Krafcik made the announcement at the annual Management Briefing Seminars, taking place this week inTraverse City, Mich.
The new Touring model hits showrooms next spring as an '09 model. When it does, Hyundai promises, it's going to be more functional and more sporty than the outgoing model. The Touring, in fact, will be patterned after the likes of the Toyota Matrix, Mazda3, and Dodge Caliber.
Hyundai has offered a five-door GT model in the previous-generation Elantra. The new lineup is also expected to include a four-door sedan.
The Touring model will come with standard features including six airbags, anti-lock brakes, traction and stability control, and active head restraints.
Hyundai also promises the '09 Elantra Touring will also have the most interior room of any of its five-door competition; will have a sport-tuned suspension; and will also have a USB port for in-car entertainment, along with XM satellite radio and an MP3 player auxiliary jack.
