Subaru's Tribeca SUV returns for 2008 with a more powerful engine and without its unhelpful middle name, B9. The new Tribeca bows at the 2007New York auto show.
The Tribeca also gets a resculpted front end that's much more streamlined and mainstream, even reminiscent of Chrysler's Pacifica. The integrated grille has a more SUV-like appearance, Subaru says. The rear end of the sport-ute also gets larger taillamps.
Under its hood, the Tribeca gets a 3.6-liter flat-six engine. Power is up from 245 horsepower to 256, and torque has risen from 215 pound-feet to 247 lb- ft. Subaru promises equivalent emissions and better fuel economy from the more powerful engine. Variable valve timing is integrated into the engine, which is teamed to a heavily revised five-speed automatic that's almost ten pounds lighter than the previous version.
Inside, Subaru promises better third-row seat access; better suspension compliance and ride comfort; and a more flexible second-row seat with tilt-and-slide control.
Anti-lock brakes, traction control, and curtain airbags are again standard on the Tribeca.
Stay tuned as TheCarConnection drives the new Tribeca later this month.
