A3
Brand new for 2006, Audi's A3 is a compact sports wagon derived from the latest-generation Volkswagen Golf, but with a sleeker roofline and unique styling cues, including the bold front grille design that debuted on last year's A6. The A3 shares its 200-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged direct-injection in-line four engine with the A4 sedan. It drives the front wheels via either a six-speed manual transmission or the Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) that previously debuted in the TT coupe. The TT's 3.2-liter V-6 will also be available in the A3 beginning in early 2006; it produces 250 horsepower and will be offered with DSG and Audi's quattro all-wheel drive system. A MacPherson front suspension combined with a four-link array at the rear combine to produce crisp cornering abilities. Large 17-inch wheels and tires are standard, with 18-inch rims and rubber optional. Audi's Electronic Stabilization Program is included, along with front-side and head-curtain airbags and a full array of features. An available Sport Package includes a tauter suspension, leather-clad sport seats, a leather-wrapped steering column, aluminum interior trim, fog lights, and a rear spoiler.
