Originally, this new mid-size entry-luxury sport sedan was called Zephyr -- but for '07 has been re-christened MKZ. It shares a platform and some drivetrain components with the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan (which, in turn, are derived from the Mazda6 sedan). However, the '07 MKZ is powered by a new 3.5-liter, 263-horsepower V-6 working through a six-speed automatic -- a major upgrade from last year. Standard versions are front-wheel drive but an all-wheel-drive system is available. The exterior styling of the MKZ has been substantially revamped, with a new front end to further distinguish it from its more plebian cousins. It's a handsome car and the power of the new V-6 makes it a solid player in the entry-luxury sedan market. Standard features include a best-in-class 15.8-cubic-foot trunk, 17-inch wheels, front-seat side-impact airbags, curtain airbags and anti-lock brakes, in addition to climate control and a revamped interior with retro-Lincoln styling cues finished off with wood and metal trim accents. A 600-watt THX surround sound premium audio system with 10 speakers is available optionally, along with Sirius satellite radio.
