The mid-engine, two-seater Elise roadster offers an elemental, "pure sports car" driving experience. It has a minimalist interior, very firm riding suspension and weighs under 2,000 pounds, giving it formidable performance capability. Power comes from a modified version of Toyota's 1.8-liter, four-cylinder engine that produces 190 horsepower. The only available transmission is a six-speed manual. Basic options such as air conditioning and a CD-playing stereo are standard; a Touring Package with leather trim and double-insulated soft-stop is available but the focus of the Elise is no-compromises high-performance sports car driving, with comfort and creature features taking a back seat to those priorities. The Exige is the Elise's hardtop coupe sister and mechanically identical. In addition to being a closed cope, the Exige also features a rear wing to provide 90 pounds of downforce at 100 mph, as well as a front air splitter and other exterior differences. It also comes with lighter weight wheels, twin oil coolers and more aggressive suspension calibrations.
