The H2 SUV goes into its second year with few changes, save for a newly available Delphi navigation system that features both 2D and 3D map views. Developed and built with assistance from General Motors, on the same platform as GM's full-size pickups and SUVs, the H2 offers much more on-road comfort than the H1, while still offering uncompromised off-road ability. Many of its rugged design cues are borrowed from the H1. But the H2 offers a long list of standard or available luxury features like dual-zone climate control, heated seats, leather upholstery, power everything, and high-end sound systems. Anti-lock brakes are standard, and the traction control system is able to brake individual wheels to reroute torque through the open center differential when necessary. The only powertrain is a 316-hp, 6.0-liter V-8 and four-speed automatic transmission, powering through an electronically controlled two-speed transfer box.
H1
The H1, the original 'Hummer' based on the HUMVEE vehicle designed for the U.S. military to use in the desert, is built by Indiana-based AM General, the company that still makes the military vehicles. The only powertrain available is a 6.5-liter turbo-diesel V-8, making 205 hp and a notable 440 lb-ft of torque. Four-wheel drive is standard, of course. The standard TorqTrac 4 system applies brakes to the wheel or wheels that are slipping, allowing more torque to the wheels with traction. The Off-Road Adventure Package adds more serious off-road hardware, including electronically locking front and rear differentials and a winch kit. Huge 37-inch tires - good for scrambling off-road - are mounted on 17-inch wheels. All H1s feature a central tire-inflation system, which allows easy inflation or deflation of the tires depending on terrain, while its run-flat tire system enables travel on a deflated tire for up to 20 miles at up to 30 mph. Standard equipment on all H1s also includes a Monsoon audio system, a heated windshield, and heated side mirrors.
