Perhaps the best-known automotive brand name in the world, Rolls has gone out of production-but just temporarily. The last Silver Seraph sedan rolled off the assembly line in Crewe early in September, and the Corniche convertible is history, as well. But an all-new and even more lavish Rolls-Royce is in the pipeline for an introduction sometime shortly after the New Year. Precise details are being kept close to the vest, a requirement of the agreement that will split off Rolls from its long-time sibling, Bentley, but it is known that the new car will be one of the longest and most lavish every built. As today, customers will be able to spec out almost every detail of the car they order. But unlike the current models, which rely on old platforms and far-from-state-of-the-art technology, expect the new Rolls-Royce to be a techno tour-de-force. It helps that the automaker is now owned by the German carmaker, BMW, which will provide plenty of money and technical assistance. The new Rolls will be built at a new assembly plant on the Southeast coast of England.
