2010 BMW X3TheCarConnection.com's spy photographers have snapped these photos of the 2010 BMW X3, in its clearest form yet--albeit with some crazy LSD-head vinyl coating applied to its new panels.

With the new GLK from Mercedes on the market and Audi's Q5 just days from the showroom, BMW is said to be accelerating the development of the new model so that it doesn't lose share to the new German mini utes.

These new photos show the prototype complete with the real headlamps and the real rear lights. The new X3 will just be slightly longer then the current one, but will have a much roomier interior. The styling leans more in the direction of the X5, and a new rear door shape is plainly visible on these mules.

To make sure its premium position is preserved, there will be plenty of gizmos to order in the 2010 X3. Night vision, head-up display, bi-xenon adaptive headlights, and seats with ventilation and massage are just some of the new options expected on the new SUV.

As far as running gear, we expect four diesels ranging from 177 horsepower up to 299 horsepower. Two gas engines will offer 231 and 306 horsepower, and both will be teamed with BMW's six-speed automatic.

A couple of weeks ago, we showed you a new batch of spy photos of the 2010 Lincoln MKT--then we brought you the scoop on Ford's production plans for the new Lincoln crossover from a secret backgrounder held during the Pebble Beach Concours.

Today, WorldCarFans is showing off the latest spy shots of the MKT, with some shots of its interior. WCF says the prototype, caught in Michigan, has an MKS-style grille up front, xenon headlights, and a black-and-tan interior with a telescoping steering wheel and a big navigation screen. The 2010 MKT, they add, is being developed under the codename D472.

Ford plans to show off the MKT at the Detroit auto show. Though it's based on the architecture that also spawned the 2009 Ford Flex, the MKT doesn't share a single sheetmetal panel or interior trim piece with the Flex. The MKT will even get its own engines--either a 3.7-liter V-6 or a 3.5-liter "EcoBoost" engine, with direct injection and turbocharging, that's good for 340 horsepower. A six-speed automatic with paddle shifters will be the sole transmission.

Standard features on the MKT will include seven-passenger seating, SYNC, and a power-folding third-row seat. The latest Travel Link system from Sirius will be available, as will all-wheel drive and Ford's new Cross Traffic Alert system, which will alert drivers to obstacles when backing out of a parking space. The MKT will also offer an auto-park feature that steers the vehicle into a parallel-parking spot at the touch of a button.

Before the MKT shows up, Lincoln will pull the fabric from the revised 2010 MKZ sedan at the Los Angeles auto show.

2010 Suzuki Kizashi spy shotsThe 2010 Suzuki Kazashi has arrived in Nevada for some hot-weather testing.  Our latest look at Suzuki's new midsize sedan has generated some new details--including our first looks at the Kizashi's engine and interior.

Likely to take design cues from handsome Suzuki's Kizashi 3 concept car show at the 2008 New York Auto Show, the production Kizashi sedan is expected to take Suzuki further upmarket. Competing directly with the Accord, Camry, and  Altima (one of each was on hand with Suzuki's test team), the Kizashi is expected offer a 3.6-liter DOHC V-6, and a 2.5-liter four-cylinder.  The V-6 could generate  as much as 300 horsepower, while the four is expected to exceed 150 hp.  Optional all-wheel drive is also likely--as is a more consumer-friendly name than the concept-car moniker.

The Kizashi is expected to reach production in three body styles:  as a sedan, a sport wagon, and a crossover.--KGP Photography

2010 Toyota SiennaTheCarConnection.com's spies caught this disguised 2010 Toyota Sienna prototype testing in the desert.

The prototype appears to utilize most of the current Sienna's bodywork, so we initially thought it was facelift of the current Sienna.  But there are some very rough sections which seems to point to this as a mule for the next-generation Sienna. Judging from the construction and packaging of this prototype, it would appear that Toyota product planners are content to stay with a package similar to the current Sienna, with all of its traditional minivan cues.

While many other automakers are bailing from the minivan product segment with line-blurring crossovers, it looks as if Toyota will stand toe-to-toe with Honda and Chrysler to slug it out for the attention of soccer moms everywhere.  Given the minimal changes visible to overall architecture of this mule, our best sense is that Toyota may be sticking with the current Sienna's platform, albeit with significant updates, in order to save costs.--KGP Photography

2010 Audi RS 5TheCarConnection.com's spies have caught Audi engineers working on an RS 5 prototype in the California desert.

The 2010 Audi RS 5's aggressively revised front fascia carries all of the menacing design traits of Audi's other RS models, but it looks particularly fetching on the already seductive A5 coupe. The fog lamps have been removed in favor of extra breathing ducts to cool the engine and brakes--just as on Audi's recently-released RS 6. This prototype doesn't yet have all the expected RS cues--namely the signature dual oval exhaust tips (it still has the quad oval tips from the S5)--but it is wearing silver side mirrors (another of Audi's RS design signatures). The RS 6 sports some subtly flared bodywork, but it remains to be seen whether the RS 5 will get a similar treatment.

The other questions obviously focus around what's under the hood. The Audi RS 6 is powered by the latest direct-injection, twin-turbocharged 5.2-liter V-10, generating 580 hp at 6,250 rpm with 479 pound-feet of torque at just 1,500 rpm. A similar application in the RS 5 would obviously be most welcome.--KGP Photography
