There was little doubt the Kia Soul concept was going to spawn a production car when it was unveiled at the Detroit auto show in 2006. It's just the sort of segment-busting compact funky car that the Korean firm needs to boost its image.
Nothing had been heard of the car since, though prototype vehicles were seen in action at Kia-owned test tracks in Asia.
Until now that is. Kia has announced that not one but three new versions--still concepts--will be unveiled at next month's Geneva Motor Show. A company statement says they hint at "a new individual and fun direction" for Kia, and "will encourage a whole new breed of Kia customers to build an emotional bond with their new car and with the brand."
The name of the first of the cars, plus a single image showing just rear half of it, have been revealed. This is the Soul Burner, complete with satin black finish and gloss dragon tattoos, highlighting that part of the Soul ownership experience will be about customisation and personalisation.
