Mitsubishi has unveiled a new coupe concept at the Detroitauto show, one with a drivetrain lifted largely from the rally-driven Lancer Evolution.
The Concept in fact uses the Evo's twin-clutch transmission, but teams it not to a turbo four but to a 2.2-liter turbodiesel four with variable valve lift, timing, and direct injection. The engine puts out 202 hp and uses a new catalytic converter to meet stringent U.S. diesel emission regulations.
Mitsubishi's S-AWC system is also featured on the concept, integrating an active center differential, stability control and anti-lock braking. The concept's body is mounted on an aluminum space frame for low weight, while some panels - including the hood and fenders - are made from plastic composites.
We'll have more live shots of the Concept-RA, along with info on Mitsubishi's Lancer Ralliart, later today.
