The handsomely updated 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche descended on theChicago auto show before the actual snow started outside McCormick Place. And similarly upstaging the introduction of Toyota's new Tundra, Chevrolet detailed the new Avalanche's extensive array of gear, including standard stability control, flex-fuel engines and a rearview camera that will help 'Lanche drivers back up their vehicles safely. The '07 model gains a much smoother appearance shared in part with the new Tahoe-and not surprisingly, the Avalanche also shares the Tahoe's 5.3-liter V-8 with cylinder deactivation and 320 hp. A 355-hp, 6.0-liter V-8 with cylinder deactivation will be an option. The Avalanche sports a rich-looking interior with a dash 4 inches lower than that in the last Avalanche. Three-mode curtain airbags, rear park assist and that rearview camera are just some of the features coming to the Avalanche. And with the addition of an E85-compatible flex-fuel version of the truck, Chevrolet says it now offers six vehicles that can run on ethanol-Tahoe, Silverado, Suburban and Avalanche, and Impala and Monte Carlo.
